Our Services
Kern County Neurological Medical Group, Inc. offers a variety of treatment options and works closely with the patient in order to determine the best course of care for the individual. We take great care to utilize the most promising technologies available.
Many diagnostic procedures are performed in our offices or at convenient nearby locations.
To help our physicians diagnose and monitor your condition, the following diagnostics may be utilized:
EEG
(Electroencephalogram)
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that detects electrical activity in your brain using small, metal discs (electrodes) attached to your scalp. Your brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even when you're asleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording.
An EEG is one of the main diagnostic tests for epilepsy. An EEG can also play a role in diagnosing other brain disorders.
EMG & NCV
NCV – Nerve Conduction Velocity Small metal electrodes are taped to the skin and the nerve is stimulated by a small electric impulse. This lasts a very short time, such as 1/1000 of a second. The stimulus is slightly stronger than the electric static shock from touching a doorknob after walking across a carpet.
EMG – Electromyography If the nerve to a muscle is damaged, the muscle shows abnormal electrical activity. A few muscle diseases as well can be detected by this test. A small Teflon coated wire pin electrode is placed in the muscle to record the activity. There is minimal discomfort with the procedure. Because the wire is so thin, there is almost no risk of bleeding or infection.

Botox Therapy
BOTOX® injections are in proven sites around your head and neck—where Chronic Migraine may affect you—to prevent headaches and migraines before they start. Injections take about 15 minutes and are done in your doctor’s office (you can go home right after). You start with 2 treatments, 12 weeks apart (and may feel results as soon as 4 weeks) and continue with treatment every 12 weeks thereafter—that’s just 4x a year (or as recommended by your doctor).
VNS Therapy
Designed for more seizure-free moments, VNS Therapy controls seizures in 3 ways: Prevention, Response and On-Demand. VNS Therapy is delivered through a device that sends mild pulses to the vagus nerve at regular intervals throughout the day to prevent seizures.
An additional dose of therapy may stop or shorten your seizure, decrease its intensity and improve your recovery.
VNS Therapy includes a short outpatient procedure which takes about an hour.
VNS Therapy is not brain surgery.

Carotid Ultrasound
Ultrasound is safe and painless. It produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging is also called ultrasound scanning or sonography. It uses a small probe called a transducer and gel placed directly on the skin. High-frequency sound waves travel from the probe through the gel into the body. The probe collects the sounds that bounce back. A computer uses those sound waves to create an image. Ultrasound exams do not use radiation (as used in x-rays). Because images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs. They can also show blood flowing through blood vessels.
Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Virtual Visit
Virtual visits are not for emergency care. If you or a loved one are suffering from a life-threatening condition, you should go to a hospital emergency room or call 911.
