Preparing for a
Successful Virtual Visit

Important Notice

Virtual visits are not for emergency care. If you or a loved one are suffering from a life-threatening condition, you should go to a hospital emergency room or call 911.

Connect to Internet

   Test your internet connection beforehand

A stronger signal will mean a smoother virtual visit experience

Adjust your Lighting

Make sure you have sufficient lighting without too much glare from windows

Overhead lighting is best for a virtual visit

Check your Sound

Verify that your computer or mobile device is not muted, and adjust the volume as needed

If you use headphones or ear buds with a microphone, these may make it easier to hear your provider and improve privacy

Find a Quiet Space

Find a quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted

Your provider may need to discuss your medical history and ask sensitive questions about your health

Join on Time

For scheduled virtual visits, check your email before your visit to make sure you have your invitation

Open the link app or click on the “email or text message” link from your email or text invitation 10-15 minutes before your appointment. Due to unexpected delay the wait time will increase. We are trying to lessen the wait time and enhance patient care and experience.

Communicate Clearly

Speak slowly and clearly and limit movement during your visit unless instructed by your provider

Have a list of your symptoms, any pre-existing conditions, and current medications

Prepare for Exam

Dress as you would for an in-office visit

If you have a thermometer or technology that can measure your heart rate (like a smart watch), pulse oximeter, or glucose monitor, have it available and let your provider know

If you are a parent or guardian assisting a patient, the patient must be present for the provider to see and hear during the visit

Test your Camera

Position your camera (this may be your smartphone) at eye level about 2 feet away

If you’re connecting using your mobile device, try to prop it up vertically so you are not holding it during your visit
